Dorset Excellence Program

Be the very best that you can be!

Program is open to ALL breeders of REGISTERED Dorset Sheep. All types of registered sheep i.e. wether type, commercial, traditional or show breeding stock Dorset sheep are eligible.  The program will include both Dorset Horns and Polled Dorsets with each competing separately.  There may be upwards to 3 overall breeder winners each for both Polled and Horned Dorsets during a program cycle.

The Dorset Excellence Program will be conducted annually from January 1st through December 31st.  Each entry submission will be judged strictly on an anonymous basis.  At no time will judges know which breeder corresponds with submission materials.

The judging criterion for the program is based upon a guidelines system at the discretion of the judging committee.  Each submission will be judged against the Dorset Breed Standard.   Entries will not be judged against each other.  Winner(s) will be announced the year following the close of the program in March, at the Ohio Dorset Sale.

ENTRY INFORMATION:

Breeders will be asked to fill out a questionnaire, provide several photos of their flock and furnish a short statement about their flock’s purposes and goals.

Submission Requirements: (NO SHOW PICTURES PLEASE)

1.  Provide a photo of your brood ewe flock or “keeper” females

2.  Supply 2 pictures ~ Head & Profile of your ideal ewe lamb

3.  Supply 2 pictures ~ Head & Profile of your ideal brood ewe

4.  Supply 2 pictures ~ Head & Profile of your ideal ram

5.  Furnish 1 photo ~ Rear picture of your ideal ram or ewe

**Pictures provided must be at least 4” x 4” or up to 8 x 10

   inches in size.  Either black & white or color photos are

   acceptable. High clarity/pixel size is best. Photos cannot be

   returned.

NOTE: Pictures MUST show your sheep in natural fleece or slick shorn if you prefer.  No washed, fitted or show pictures accepted.

6.  Fill out the Questionnaire and your Flock Purposes & Goals Statement by requesting an entry be mailed to you by the Continental Dorset Club or enter online.  Online entry requirements will be placed at the bottom of this information.  You should be able to submit all requirements for this program via email.  In case you have difficulties doing so, please request the entry form be mailed to you and submit all pictures and questionnaire in hard copy via the US mail.

EACH PROGRAM WINNER WILL ENJOY THE FOLLOWING:

**A Breeder Profile in an issue of the “Dorset Connection” which will include photos of your farm/ranch/flock and a full story on your operation.

**Donated Cash Award of $200 and merchandise prizes ~
